breath book 2020

Another strap-bound medical book: a disease which targets the lungs, locked out of my joy of group singing, browsing old medical slides from research done when I was considering specializing in pulmonary pathology, stethoscope from my hospital days watching people die on ventilators, thinking of the breathing-like quality of the Indian shruti box drone instrument, recalling the Greek idea of "pneuma" which relates breath to soul. This box has windows of old slides, a book of old electron micrographs and research papers, x-ray of my broken ribs . The center box has a bellows from an old polaroid camera which pushes air through a harmonica as the lid rocks open and closed. A stethoscope is fitted to allow listening to the box as it breaths and makes soft music.
